Whangarei Care Centre Patron

Following a long period of working in community and social development programmes in Korea, Chris returned to Whangarei in 1991 and took up the position of HIV-AIDS coordinator for Northland. Then followed 25 years of working in the health “system” of Northland, including managing Dargaville Hospital, managing the Region’s public and comuunity health services and 13 years as founding CEO of Manaia PHO in Whangārei .Weaving together all these experiences, Chris took the leap to Auckland in 2016 to take up the position of CEO /Missioner of the Auckland City Mission, where he served for five years. In the 2022 New Year Honours Chris was appointed a Knight Companion of the NZ Order of Merit, in recognition of services to health and the community. Chris lives in Whangārei Heads with his wife Sue and while, “retired” continues involvement with community. He is a trustee of Northhaven Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, and the Melanesian Mission, and now honoured to be patron of The Whangarei Care Centre.
